Sometimes real estate brokerage is a whale of job.

After helping out with the seal rescue off duck ledges this spring, I came to know the marine mammal folks over at the University of Maine in Machias. Dr. Kraus, a professor there, called me to give her and her students a ride on my boat out to an island just off the peninsula to check on a report that there was a whale beached out there.
Turns out that it was a beached whale, an immature female humpback that was not entangled in any fishing gear but had perished probably as the result of the severe red tide that we had this year. You can see the village of Jonesport in this photo along with the whale.
